The Application of SQL Server 2008 Exp in SDLX 2007

After these days' test, we have good news to share with you: SQL Server 2008 Exp can be directly used in the environment of SDLX 2007, which enormously promotes the capacity and stability of TM database.

For we have accumulated a numerous quantity of data through the application of SDLX 2007, so we begin to worry about whether the capacity and stability of desktop database Access can fit our requirements. The result of our test is very inspiring.

Hereby we briefly introduce its application in SDLX 2007: First, create and name a database in SQL Server 2008 Studio; Next, open SDLX Maintain, click "option" in "tools" on the menu bar and then choose SQL Server in the object management in "advance"; Then, back to Maintain, click the button of creating new TM Database and paste the name of server in the option of "server", use "Windows authentication" for "connection" and find the database just named in the drop-down menu of "Database". When it is saved as a newly-created TM Database, you can enjoy the stability and enormous quantity of saving of the professional database.

Moreover, we are glad to introduce the advantages of the combination of SDLX 2007 and SQL Server 2008 Exp:

(1) Bidirectional Characteristic of Database: For legal and IP file project, the bidirectional characteristic of Translation Memory Database and Terminology Memory Database are very important for us because we need ultimate consistency.  The Translation Memory Database of Trados can only be used unidirectionally. It is very inconvenient for us to create a reverse language database through exporting and importing the database when we need it for reference. By contrast, the bidirectional function of language of SDLX just matches our requirement.

(2) SDLX desktop version can be directly equipped with SQL Server: If we equip SQL Server in Trados, we must buy Trados Server software, except for Trados and SQL Server; If we use SDLX, we only need SDLX 2007 and SQL Server2008 Exp and there is no capacity limitation for SQL Server 2008 Exp. We can manage and arrange enormous TM Database through the update of SQL Server.

After we carried out the plan for TM Database, it is quite natural for us to reflect the idea on Terminology Memory Database. Only Access is available for SDL MultiTerm (the performance distinctly drops down when database reaches 500Mb). We anticipate that SDL will publish a MultiTerm which can be equipped with SQL Server in the future.
