1. MultiTerm Extract 2009 Shall Support SDLXLIFF Format
SDL MultiTerm Extract 2009, as a module which shall be purchased separately in SDL Trados Studio 2009, unexpectedly does not support the bilingual document format "SDLXLIFF". For the purpose of extracting terms from bilingual documents, we have to use TTX of the old software. SDL mainly promotes the bilingual document format "SDLXLIFF" through the latest SDL Trados Studio 2009 and SDLXLIFF is not compatible to the previous version TTX. It is obvious that SDL hopes users make a transition from TTX to SDLXLIFF (just like MS Office2007). MultiTerm Extract 2009 not compatible to SDLXLIFF was hastily published with SDL Trados Studio 2009 simultaneously, which makes users who need to extract terms from bilingual documents create TTX first and then process those documents with Editor of Version 2009. The original intention of SDL to promote SDLXLIFF was contravened, which also brings a lot of inconvenience to users. We suggest MultiTerm Extract 2009 supporting SDLXLIFF as soon as possible and it is unreasonable for users to use transitional products after making the payments for upgrade every year.

The Comparison and Suggestions on Improvement about SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP1 and Trados 2007 Sp2

To be on the safe side, we made an internal test on the trial version and did not make an update until SDL Trados Studio 2009 Sp1 (hereinafter "Version 2009") was published. For the advantages and new characteristics of Version 2009, please see the official website of SDL and this article does not make deliberation. We desire to share our experience of using the two software through the comparison of Version 2009 and Trados 2007 Sp2 (hereinafter "Version 2007") and hope it may be helpful to the further improvement of Version 2009.

For we have accumulated a numerous quantity of data through the application of SDLX 2007, so we begin to worry about whether the capacity and stability of desktop database Access can fit our requirements. The result of our test is very inspiring.

Suggestions on Attribute Settings of SDLX 2007 and the Version Control of TUs
1. Problems on Attribute Settings
In my opinion, the attribute settings of TM database accurately define the classification of TUs. In the working environment of CAT software, those settings are exploited during the management of TM database and version control of TUs providing reference information to the recycling of TUs. Therefore, great importance is attached to the application of attribute settings and we carried out a solution for attribute settings for our group, which means we will set TM attribute for every ITD document when they are to be updated.
