G•IPRs News Update - March. 2010
From March 24 to 27 in 2010, The 32nd Meeting of Audio Video Coding Standard Workgroup of China ( “AVS Workgroup Meeting”) was held in Guangzhou. Zhong Yi, attorney at law, with his assistant, attended the IPR subgroup meeting discussing the intellectual property policy and the establishment of patent database of the AVS video of second generation. Moreover, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cliff Reader (the former head of US delegation of MPEG, the chief editor of MPEG-1, the first chairman of MPEG-4 workgroup).

On December 10, 2009, Mark R. Shulman led 9 lawyers of the delegation of Association of the Bar of the City of New York, America to visit Shanghai Bar Association. The delegation includes Robert N. Hornick, lawyer and the partner of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, Judge John M. Walker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Pro. Jerome A. Cohen who in a long term studies Chinese Laws from New York University, School of Law and other famous lawyers, experts, scholars and judges.

From October 23 to 25, the Annual Symposium 2009 of the Committee on Intellectual Property of National Bar Association of China and the Intellectual Property Summit Forum of Chinese Lawyers were held at the International Conference Hotel of Nanjing. Focus on the Strategy of Patent Standardization ------ Specialized Legal Services in Audio Video Coding Industry by Zhong Yi, attorney at law (hereinafter "Lawyer Zhong Yi" ) was awarded the Distinguished Paper and he delivered a keynote speech on such topic on the Forum on the last day.
G•IPRs News Update - Sept. 2009
On Sept. 28, 2009, G•IPRs Runhe Group, based on H.264 and AVS Standard, launched the establishment of the database for analysis of Patents involved in Standard of Audio Video Coding Standard. At the initial stage, the emphasis of research is put on analyzing the corresponding relationship between the Patents involved in Standard (hereinafter "PIS") and Standard Technology, and the legal status, suits and cases of PIS.
From Sept. 26 to 27, 2009, the 7th Forum of Lawyers in East China, jointly held by the Bar Associations of six provinces and one municipality in east China and taken charge by the Bar Association of Zhejiang Province, was convened at the New Century Grand Hotel of Hangzhou. Lawyers from those areas gathered together to discuss the topic "Crisis, Challenge, Mission and Value--Financial Crisis and the Legal Industry". Moreover, the Research on Several Issues of the Constitutive Requirements of Unjustified Enrichment wrote in collaboration of Professor Shen Youlun and Zhong Yi, attorney at law, ,both from G•IPRs Runhe Group, was awarded the Second Prize of the Distinguished Paper of the Forum of Lawyers in East China this year.
Seminar on “Advanced Legal Issues of Trademark Law and Geographical Indications”
A seminar on the “Advanced Legal Issues of Trademark Law and Geographical Indications” was successfully held in the auditorium of Shanghai Bar Association on July 1st, 2009. The meeting was jointly organized by Intellectual Property Law Research Committee of Shanghai Bar Association and Tongji University Intellectual Property School.
Lawyer, Liu Feng, the deputy director of the Intellectual Property Law Research Committee hosted the meeting. Addressing at the beginning of the meeting, Pro. Tao Xinliang -- the dean of Shanghai University Intellectual Property School, delivered a speech titled “The Third Revision of Trademark Law and Well-known Trademarks”. He summarized the advantages and disadvantages of well-known trademarks restrained by law from a macro perspective, and offered his view on how to protect the well-known trademarks. Dr. Zhang Weijun, from Tongji University Intelluctual Property School, shared a speech titled “The Contribution of Market Reputation to Cognizing the Well-known Trademarks”.
